HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP – Less than six months after his completing his first tour of fighting with the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, Haverford’s Patrick Creed, a retired U.S. Army major, is back in the warzone.

On Tuesday, Creed announced on his Facebook page that he had just completed his first training sessions back in Ukraine after having taken part in the battle of Kiev from mid-March to late May.

Creed, who was wounded in Iraq, said he went to Ukraine after the president of that country asked for foreign volunteers.

At the 2022 Delaware County Memorial Day Ceremony Creed spoke on the steps of the courthouse about his experiences and motivation to fight far from his own country.

“It is a true struggle over there of good versus evil,” is how he at the time described the fight going on in Ukraine.

Creed said keeping Putin from extending the battle to NATO countries will keep American soldiers needing to fight.

To enable his efforts and to raise money for gear Creed has started a crowd sourcing effort on SpotFund where he had raised over $6,000 of a $10,000 goal, according to his Facebook page.

“After returning home, I almost immediately felt like I had not contributed enough, and needed to return,” Creed said in his fundraising effort. “It is hard to explain, but my inner motivation to go back to Ukraine has been overwhelming and constantly on my mind. My family is supporting my decision, even though it will be tough missing the Holidays, and not knowing when I will come home.”

In addition to air fare to Poland, Creed was hoping to acquire a vehicle and night vision goggles, to help with night driving.

He said he had already invested in winter gear appropriate for Northern Europe. Other equipment he has already invested in include; body armor, helmet, and everything else needed for working in what he called “a challenging environment.”

In other social media posts throughout the summer, Creed said he was learning to speak Russian and the Ukrainian languages to prepare for his return.

Creed said he plans to work with a mobile training team that teaches advanced tactics, planning, and organizational skills to Ukrainian troops.

In his social media post on Tuesday, Creed said he had just finished marksmanship and machine gun drills and compared the last group of the day as good as any NATO troops.
