The goggles will provide improved situational awareness and mobility to the forces during night operations.

Elbit Systems of America has been awarded $49m contract to deliver additional night vision systems for the US Marine Corps (USMC).

Under the contract, Elbit Systems’ US subsidiary will supply its Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle (SBNVG) systems to the USMC.

The new contract is part of a five-year $249m indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, which was awarded in September 2019.

The initial contract to provide around 14,000 SBNVG was signed with L3Harris Technologies’ Night Vision business, which was later acquired by Elbit Systems of America.

Elbit Systems of America CEO and president Raanan Horowitz said: “This recent order for additional Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggles signifies that Elbit Systems of America is a partner of choice by the US Marine Corps.

“We are honoured that Marines are equipped with our night vision solutions and we are committed to continuing to provide our war fighters with the very best technology we have to offer.”

Production work on the NVG systems will be executed in Roanoke, Virginia, US and is expected to be delivered by September next year.

A lightweight helmet-mounted system, SBNVG provides superior night-time viewing capability to the forces in different surrounding and conditions. It also enhances the situational awareness and performance of the warfighter.

Elbit Systems’ SBNVG features a high-performance battery life and white phosphor image intensification tubes, which provide clarity and depth perception to the users.

Besides, the system has a common external power supply along with a modular uncooled thermal imaging sensor to improve the situational awareness of the US marines during missions.
