PCSO investigating series of car burglaries in Highland City

LAKELAND — The Polk County Sheriff's Office is warning Highland City residents to lock their cars while the agency investigates 24 car reported burglaries in the area since Monday night.

The sheriff's office said the agency has made multiple posts on social media with videos of suspects in the act "with the hope that someone will recognize them and contact us."

In addition to the video the agency released on Twitter Thursday, the sheriff's office also released a video after the first eight burglaries were reported Monday morning.

Officials said they have yet to identify suspect in the thefts that took place in the area of Central Avenue South East and First and Second Avenue South East.

"So far we have nearly a dozen UNLOCKED vehicles that were ransacked and 8 victims," The agency said in a news release.

"Among the items stolen was a Mossberg Patriot .243 caliber rifle with a scope and ammo, and a woman's purse with identification and credit cards in it."
