BYRNA’s law enforcement department held a trainer training course for 19 officials at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office training facility

Andover, Massachusetts, December 3, 2021/PRNewswire/ - Byrna Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: BYRN) ("Byrna" or "Company") announced today, Tuesday, November 30 , Spokane County Committee members voted to approve the purchase of multiple types of Byner non-lethal launchers, including 200 new products in the Byner series, tactical compact rifles (TCR), and 39,000 rounds of Byner non-lethal ammunition and Accessories.

These transmitters will be provided to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office patrol department, the SWAT team, and the TAC department responsible for managing civil unrest. The intent of the sheriff's office is to place one of the 200 TCRs in each patrol vehicle so that all Spokane representatives can deploy the Byrna launcher immediately upon notification.

After the Washington State Legislature passed House Bill 1310 and House Bill 1054 in July, the Sheriff’s Office began exploring non-lethal options. The legislation sets new standards for the use of force for law enforcement officials, with a focus on minimizing the use of lethal force and prohibiting Washington State police from using shotguns.

Spokane Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said: "[Byrna] is one of the few platforms we have tested. The other platforms we have seen are still under development, and we are unwilling to spend taxpayer money on experimental things."

To ensure that every officer is trained in the proper use of Byrna's non-lethal weapon system, instructors from the Byrna Law Enforcement Department conducted a trainer training (T3) course at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office training facility. The 19 delegates who attended the meeting were certified to train Spokane County Sheriff’s Department officials to use and deploy the Byrna TCR. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is expected to train their deputies and deploy the Byrna launcher in January 2022.

Byrna Training Director Josh Schirard said: “TCR is very easy to use. The weapon manual is very similar to other weapon systems that law enforcement officers are familiar with, so it doesn’t take a lot of time to teach someone how to use the launcher.”
